Macbeth, "the Scottish Play", is the next, exciting, production of Theatre64, the award-winning drama group based in Yateley. One of Shakespeare’s best known works, it relates the tragedy of Macbeth, who chooses the path of evil to become King, and as in all great tragedies so begins his fall. With its themes of treachery, murder, witches, ghosts and madness, it is hardly surprising that the play is thought to bring bad luck to those who perform in it.

The play was originally written by Shakespeare to be performed at the court of James I of England who passionately believed in the divine right of Kings and consequently had an intense hatred of witchcraft and the occult. Gill Richardson, the director, said, “The real heart of the play comes from Shakespeare’s fantastic language and the cast have worked hard and risen to the challenge of doing it justice. I know it will provide a wonderful evening’s entertainment.”

Russ Pitcher, from Cove, takes the lead role of Macbeth and Claire Sergeant, from Yateley, plays his scheming wife, Lady Macbeth. Mike Hills, from Farnborough, plays the avenging Macduff. They and the rest of the cast, will be keeping their fingers crossed that the curses do not strike this particular production.

The performances of Macbeth start at 7.45pm in the Main Hall, Yateley Centre, Yateley, Wednesday 1st June until Saturday 4th June. Prices are £6.50, discounted to £4.50 for students. Tickets can be obtained from the Theatre64 box-office on 01252 409509 or by email from tickets@theatre64.org.uk. Further details can be found on the Theatre64 website www.theatre64.org.uk.
