This very enterprising theatre group produced three brand new one act plays written by local writers, with varying success.

In the first, Not the Butler, by Peter Rolls, a couple new to a village try to write a murder play. However, the characters they are dreaming up come to life on stage and try to influence the plot and the dialogue of the play. Though well conceived the idea didn't seem to come to life and lacked pace.

The second was much better. Between Stars by Matthew Wilkie had a very atmospheric set, excellent lighting and music and some strong acting by a good cast, which brought this play to life. It was about three astronauts in a badly damaged spaceship, running out of everything, waiting for the rescue mission that doesn't come. Riveting stuff.

Lastly was Definitely No Pineapples by Phillip Gething. Based on fact, it recalls when Mae West was charged with participating in an obscene stage performance in 1927. On an excellent set - her lawyer's office - he tried to work on her defence with often funny results. Again a good cast, but I would have liked to see Miss West come over stronger. However, I enjoyed it very much.
