Yateley based amateur drama group, Theatre 64, will be entertaining local audiences with their first foray into the realms of Shakespeare, with their production of The Tempest.

The Tempest features the mysterious Prospero, played by Martyn Lewis of Camberley, and his daughter Miranda, played by Suzanne Marsh of Fleet, who have taken refuge on a strange Island after being banished from Milan. Prospero uses his magical powers to bring about a shipwreck, which starts a chain of chaotic events, combining to create a spectacle of magic, horror, comedy and love - a production that certainly promises something for everyone.

The Tempest gives Gill Richardson, of Farnborough, her directorial debut with Theatre 64, although recent productions of Cabaret and Under Milkwood, with nearby Hartley Arts Group, prove that she is no stranger to exciting theatre.

Trainee Teacher Gill is clear when discussing what drew her to The Tempest, saying, "There's a certain charm about Prospero's magical island, a timelessness that captures the imagination and a poignant message for our troubled world; forgiveness not retribution is the way forward."

The past twelve months have seen Theatre 64 enjoy some well received productions with a diverse mix that has included a new adaptation of A Christmas Carol and a showcase of new plays by local writers. The Tempest promises to continue this strong tradition of challenging theatre and is to be followed by another new play showcase and Bram Stoker's Dracula later this year.

You can see 'The Tempest' at the Main Hall, Yateley Centre, School Lane, Yateley from Thursday 6th June to Saturday 8th June 2002 at 8.00pm, with a matinee performance on the Saturday at 3pm. Tickets cost £6.00 (£4.00 concessions), with a 10% discount if bought in advance, and are available by telephone 01344 774266, by email (tickets@theatre64.org.uk) or in person from Travallen Travel, Yateley.
