Yateley based amateur drama group, Theatre 64, offers local audiences the chance to see something a little different this summer - a showcase of new plays, all by local writers. This second Showcase from the group, builds on the success of last year's performances, once again giving local writers the opportunity of seeing their work on the stage. The plays all offer very different styles, so audiences can expect anything from comedy to tragedy.

Mike Hills, a primary school teacher from Mytchett, is the current Chairman of Theatre 64 and is co-directing and acting in his play 'No Man's Land', set in the trenches during the first World War. Mike says, "Like many amateur writers it can be so difficult getting your plays actually performed on to the stage, so by putting on the Showcase we can make this possible for not just me, but other local writers new to Theatre 64 too."

'No Mans Land' is joined by three other new plays. 'SPASM', is a comedy by Peter Rolls of Camberley, whilst 'Everything Happens For The Best' by Bett Hobbs of Staines, and 'The Silent Cry' by Jean Kanssen of Ottershaw, are both dramas with a twist in the tale.

Theatre64's Artistic Director Matthew Wilkie, of Ash, believes the Showcase benefits everyone saying, "It's great to get the chance to perform plays that are not only different from those that you would expect an amateur group to perform, but also offer the audience a chance to see four very different plays all in one evening. Our Showcase last year went down so well with audiences and writers alike, that we just had to repeat the experience".

You can see 'A Showcase of New Local Plays' at the Main Hall, Yateley Centre, School Lane, Yateley from Wednesday 31st July to Saturday 3rd August 2002 at 8.00pm. Tickets cost £6.00 (£4.00 concessions), with a 10% discount if bought in advance, and are available by telephone 01344 774266, by email (tickets@theatre64.org.uk) or in person from Travallen Travel, Yateley.

Theatre 64 is always looking out for new members of all ages to get involved in a whole range of activities, including acting and working backstage. Anybody who would like to find out more should contact the box office on 01344 774266 for further details.
