Theatre 64 present 'Still Lives and Smoking Jackets'

Yateley-based amateur drama group, Theatre 64, presents local audiences with an evening of Noel Coward promising both music and theatre.

The evening will feature 'Still Life', the little-performed play on which the classic film Brief Encounter is based. Set at a railway station, the play follows the doomed relationship of Laura and Alec as they meet on five Thursdays over a period of twelve months.

'Still Life' will be be interspersed with songs by Coward, such as 'Mad About The Boy', 'Mad Dogs and Englishmen' and 'Dont Put Your Daughter One The Stage, Mrs Worthington'.

Co-director Claire Barber, who is based in Owlsmoor, explains: "We have a cast of 14 actors, many of which have been involved in musical groups, including the local Rock Choirs, so it has been great to find a production that capitalises on not only our acting abilities, but also the many talented in singers in the group". Claire also teaches at Frogmore Junior School where Theatre 64 perform their productions.

Mike Hills, of Farnborough, both acts and sings in 'Still Lives and Smoking Jackets' and is the current Artistic Director of Theatre 64. He says he is pleased that the group is continuing to showcase a diverse range of theatre, admitting, "The problem with amateur theatre is that you often see the same plays over and over again. Theatre 64 has always tried to do something a little different whilst obviously looking to appeal to local audiences. Hopefully, this production does this and offers something for everybody!".

You can see 'Still Lives and Smoking Jackets' at Frogmore Junior School, Green Lane, Frogmore (near Yateley) from Thursday 2nd June to Saturday 4th June 2011, with curtain up at 7.45pm. Tickets cost 7.50 (6.50 concessions), and are available by telephone, (01252) 409509, or by email, tickets@theatre64.org).

Theatre64 is always looking out for new members of all ages to get involved in a whole range of activities, including acting and working backstage. Anybody who would like to find out more should contact (name) on (number) or the Theatre64 website (www.theatre64.org).
